Good Endeavors Ministry is holding a fundraiser on Saturday morning, January 24 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at 6566 Sixteenth Road, Smithville. The cost for the morning event is $50 a person (men or women) for a learning event of Wood Turning, with guest wood turning teachers Marvin Ens, Don Svob, and Brodie Watson. We’re hoping that we can have sessions starting at 9:00, 10:00, and 11:00. It’s somewhat casual, some will watch but the idea is that most can get on the lathes for a bit to learn the craft of woodturning. If we have too many sign up then we will have a second event at some other time when others can get a bit more time on the lathe (to get their money’s worth so to speak). We will have some good snacks and other surprise demonstrations. We won’t count on Graham Wilkinson’s marquetry demonstration this year because he’s scheduled for surgery but we’ll be asking the Marquetry and Carving clubs to send a rep or two for us. RSVP please so that we can ensure a well planned event.
Good Endeavors is an organization that helps people who are struggling or lonely to have drop-ins, hobbies and clubs to go to where they can have fellowship and potential mentoring as well… older men helping younger men etc. It is a Christian run organization but we don’t force the religion part of it, as we feel it is our God given responsibility to love all people. We are trying to provide safe spaces where people can go to get a coffee, learn or appreciate a craft and meet others who have gone through some of life’s struggles and want to share and help.
