Guido de Brès Christian High School Fundrasier Concert

Date:

Saturday, April 8, 2023

Time:

7:30pm

Location:

Central Presbyterian Church, 165 Charlton Avenue, Hamilton

Description:

When Charles Jennens provided Handel with the libretto for a new sacred oratorio in July of 1741, he had high hopes. In just 24 days Handel composed the music to accompany Jennens’ libretto and Messiah, a Sacred Oratorio was completed. The oratorio was set to debut during Lent, when operas were frowned upon, but sacred music was welcomed. Handel attracted his first audience by promising to donate part of the proceeds to charity. Thanks to Handel, we can enjoy this beautiful sacred work still today both at Easter time when it was first performed, as well as at Christmas time. Guido de Brès Christian High School is “Leaping Forward” from Crerar Drive in Hamilton to a new larger location on Albright Road. Following Handel’s example, a benefit concert will be held on Saturday, April 8th at 7:30 pm at Central Presbyterian Church in Hamilton. Led by artistic director Johann VanIttersum, the Cantate Iterum ensemble and orchestra will bring the story of Christ to life in its presentation of Messiah. What better way to celebrate Easter than to listen to the story of our Saviour! Ticket sales are now open, and all proceeds will fund necessary upgrades, revisions, and renovations at Guido CHS’s new location. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased at leapingforward.eventbrite.ca. This event is sponsored by www.ipcburlington.ca. We hope to see you there!
